Kepler is on an audacious mission: to bring the internet to space. Founded in 2015, our ambition is to provide internet connectivity in space, whether in LEO, MEO, GEO, or beyond. With an expanding base of early customers and our first 23 satellites in orbit, Kepler is continuing to grow and expand its most important asset – the Team!
Kepler is designing a network architecture to bring the internet to space. This network will enable communication between our constellation of LEO satellites and other space-based assets. Working closely with the Network Architect, the Senior Software Engineer, Networks will be developing, implementing and operating this infrastructure to deliver a modern, flexible, high throughput, low latency network virtualization architecture. To be successful in the role, you will be implementing custom networking protocols, wireless technologies, network security, quality of service, communications infrastructure, and network management tools. You will have deep networking and routing software development experience, including hands-on experience delivering network virtualization software and application security.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with network architects to maintain and grow terrestrial network connecting ground stations and user segments to core network
  • Self-starter mentality with the willingness take on new tasks with minimal oversight
  • Manage network monitoring system to alert on faults, performance, capacity, and security
  • Work with network vendors and connectivity providers to build resilient, fast, and secure transport network
  • Onboard new customers onto network
  • Utilize tools to manage the network programmatically (no CLI-driven network changes)
  • Develop network documentation for network operations team
  • Deploy Linux-based network routers and switches
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for network support

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience to a Bachelor's degree
  • 2+ years with BGP, MPLS, and ISIS routing protocols
  • 2+ years working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • 2+ years experience in automating network tasks via Bash, Python, and Ansible
  • 2+ years experience working with Amazon AWS
  • Intermediate-level Python knowledge
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Ansible
  • Familiarity working with git for version control
  • Deep experience with L2, L3, and L4 technologies, routing, and transport protocols

Bonus Points:

  • Experience deploying networking functions on Linux-based systems
  • Basic understanding of Linux network constructs such as namespaces, VRFs, VETHs, bridges, iptables, route tables, IP rules, etc.
  • Experience with security protocols such as IPSec, MacSec, & Wireguard
  • Experience troubleshooting complex network issues
  • Experience with best practices in application, server, and network security
  • Experience using continuous integration testing systems such as GitLab CI or Jenkins
  • Industry qualifications such as Cisco, Juniper, AWS certifications
