Junior Hardware Designer
Elaya Inc.
Compensation: This role is funded for January 2025-August 2025. We are looking for a candidate interested in growing with us beyond this time.
Elaya invites applicants enthusiastic about medical device design to apply for this internship role. If you are interested in collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on innovative medical device products while working at the interface of research and early stage product development then consider applying. You will be mentored by our senior electrical engineer advisors. You will come up with viable designs for a medical device to measure muscle contraction using electrophysiology and motion sensors. Through mentored support, you will prototype and test the designs, performing basic bench tests and collecting validation data. We will then work with our clinical partners to gather clinical validation human subject data.
Responsibilities:
- design, prototyping, verification and validation of hardware circuits to capture electrophysiological signals (electromyography, mechanomyography, photoplethysmography)
- develop a bench test protocol to be repeated with each iteration of the hardware design
- debug and troubleshoot designs
- work with team to collect technical validation data
- prepare schematics, PCB layout, BOM, estimated material costs for design iterations
- work with team to obtain end user feedback on functionality and form factor
- assist with research and selection of hardware design, development environment, debugging and profiling tools
- document hardware requirements and track design iterations against them
- maintain hardware documentation
Skills
- Bachelor degree underway in electronics, electrical engineering or related subject matter or demonstrated project experience equivalent
- demonstrated creative problem solving coupled with methodical application of scientific method
- curiosity and desire to learn new skills and build your knowledge in the medical device and electrophysiology space
- experience with electrophysiology sensors (EEG, ECG, EMG, PPG)
- demonstrated project work in digital/analog circuit design, circuit simulation and analysis, I/O Interface and microcontrollers implementation (show us a demo or course project you have built)
- demonstrated bench testing skills, characterization and validation of electronics using standard equipment (ie Oscilloscope, Multimeter, Signal and Pattern Generator, Logic State Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Wireless Communication Tester) (show us a lab assignment )
- demonstrated research and literature review skills to quickly understand current state of the art and apply it
- ability to review and understand electronics product data sheets
- ability to plan design iterations in order to test hardware circuit ideas and determine best designs
- experience with revision control systems (ie Git)
- comfortable working independently, self-directed and organized, able to manage to a personal project plan
Benefits and Requirements:
- This is initially an internship role but we are looking for candidates interested in growing into a full time role.
