Opportunity

At e-Zinc, we are committed to driving the transition to a sustainable energy future and are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on Mechanical Technologist with experience in designing, machining and assembling acrylic and ABS components, and soldering metal components. This position will report directly to the VP, Research & Development and work closely with e-Zinc’s Technology team.

Position Scope and responsibilities

  • Build initial CAD models for test fixtures, based on R&D requirements
  • Program small CNC routers to machine prototype components
  • Perform first prototype builds of test fixtures and components
  • Perform mechanical testing of new test fixtures
  • Work with the R&D team to incorporate feedback into test fixture and component design
  • Help development teams modify test fixtures using welding, milling, and other machining techniques
  • Work with the Procurement team to source components for initial builds of test fixtures
  • Create work instructions that can be used for the manufacturing team when test fixtures are scaled up
  • Maintain an inventory of components for the test fixtures
  • Help with test fixture assembly when required
  • Work with project and program teams to prioritize and complete work orders on schedule

Qualifications

Required:

  • College diploma or university degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with Solidworks (preferred) or similar design software
  • Demonstrated experience building prototypes both independently and with a team
  • Demonstrated experience with programming and operating small CNC mills
  • Experience with hands-on manufacturing techniques such as epoxy casting, tapping, and sanding
  • Familiar with the use of hand power tools as well as shop scale machinery including drill press, mill, and table saws
  • A good attitude and willingness to perform routine assembly work from time to time
  • Ability to plan projects and manage time independently

Assets:

  • Familiarity working with acrylic
  • Experience with resistance welders
  • WHMIS certification
  • Experience with soldering and brazing
