Overview

Elaya is an early-stage biomedical technology startup building an intelligent IoT sensing platform for electro-physiological monitoring. We are looking for a highly motivated AI Engineer who thrives at the boundary between research and product. We are looking for a creative problem-solver who can experiment with, validate, and ship AI algorithms that work reliably in the real world.

This role owns the full journey from exploratory research to architecture and deployment. You will help define the technical direction of our AI stack and play a foundational role in shaping our first products.

What You’ll Do

Research & Algorithm Development
* Develop and evaluate machine learning algorithms for biomedical time-series sensor data.
* Explore and prototype advanced methods (e.g., self-supervised learning, multimodal fusion, anomaly detection).
* Design experiments and validation strategies using real-world physiological data.
* Work with biomedical experts to translate physiological insight into algorithmic approaches.

Productization & Deployment
* Design AI architectures that span embedded devices, edge processing, and cloud infrastructure.
* Plan and design the full ML lifecycle: data pipelines, training, validation, deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
* Debug and improve models using noisy, imperfect data from real-world deployments.

Startup & Team Impact
* Help define technical strategy, trade-offs, and development priorities.
* Collaborate closely with hardware design engineers.
* Contribute to documentation, design reviews, and early regulatory-facing technical materials.
* Influence hiring, tooling, and engineering culture as the team grows.

What We’re Looking For
* Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
* Strong foundation in machine learning and statistical modeling.
* Experience working with physiological or sensor data (e.g., EMG, ECG, EEG, wearable sensors).
* Proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
* Solid understanding of signal processing fundamentals.
* Ability to move fluidly between exploratory research and pragmatic engineering.
* Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving startup environments.

**Nice to Have
*** Experience deploying ML models on embedded or edge devices.
* Familiarity with model optimization techniques (e.g., compression).
* Experience with wearable, medical, or IoT products.

**Why This Role Is Different
*** You’ll shape core IP.
* You'll be in the front row of translating innovation to better patient care.

_You’ll see your algorithms go from idea → data → device → real users.
_You’ll work closely with clinicians and engineers who care deeply about, science, improving healthcare delivery, building fantastic products.

What We Offer

  • Big and difficult problems to solve where you will tangibly improve people's lives.

  • Early, high-impact role in a deep-tech biomedical startup.

  • Direct input in product decisions.

  • Flexible work environment.

  • The opportunity to build technology that genuinely improves health outcomes.

Compensation TBD.

Expect to be in the office at least 2 days per week. There is no substitute for in-person collaboration and problem solving.

Please forward your resume and a cover letter telling us about yourself, why you are interested in the role and why you are a perfect fit.
