Interested in medical device design? Elaya invites applicants enthusiastic about improving patient outcomes and healthspan through wearable technology and AI to apply for this part-time role. We are looking for a junior hardware test engineer interested in collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on innovative medical device products while working at the interface of research and early stage product development. The intern will be mentored by our senior electrical engineer advisors. They will bench-test new electrophysiology hardware in our hardware test lab and collect validation data. We will then work with our clinical partners to gather clinical validation human subject data.

Responsibilities:

  • verification and validation of hardware circuits to capture electrophysiological signals (electromyography, mechanomyography, photoplethysmography)
  • develop a bench test protocol to be repeated with each iteration of the hardware design
  • debug and troubleshoot designs
  • work with team to collect technical validation data
  • basic embedded systems design to capture time series data from the hadrware
  • document hardware test results and maintain hardware documentation

Skills

  • Bachelor degree underway in electronics, electrical engineering or related subject matter or demonstrated project experience equivalent
  • demonstrated creative problem solving coupled with methodical application of scientific method
  • curiosity and desire to learn new skills and build your knowledge in the medical device and electrophysiology space
  • experience with electrophysiology sensors (EEG, ECG, EMG, PPG)
  • demonstrated project work in digital/analog circuit design, circuit simulation and analysis, I/O Interface and microcontrollers implementation (show us a demo or course project you have built)
  • demonstrated bench testing skills, characterization and validation of electronics using standard equipment (ie Oscilloscope, Multimeter, Signal and Pattern Generator, Logic State Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Network Analyzer, Wireless Communication Tester) (show us a lab assignment )
  • comfortable working independently, self-directed and organized, able to manage to a personal project plan

Benefits and Requirements:

  • We are looking for an intern available 10 hours per week Sept-Dec for testing (see the Junior Hardware Designer role for full time opportunities in January). This is an in-person work opportunity and most work will take place at VentureLab.
  • This is initially an internship role but we are looking for candidates interested in growing into a full time role.
  • We are clients of the VentureLab Hardware Catalyst program and test our designs in their advanced hardware lab.
  • Through our relationships with incubators, accelerators and academic institutions you will have an opportunity to access research resources and equipment.
  • We have a number of academic collaborators and you will be exposed to clinical and research environments and network with students, researchers and clinicians with diverse backgrounds and expertise.

Compensation:

We are interested in candidates available for 10 hours per week Sept-Dec. We are looking for a candidate interested in growing with us beyond the internship.
